2023 on the Farm- A reflection

2023-the year of intensity.

Was it just me, or was 2023 pedal to the metal? Maybe even a race car spinning out of control for an entire year?

Reflecting back on 2023, this farm was very busy and grew a ton. If you have been around for a bit, I set some goals for the farm for 2023 last January. Let’s see how it went!

Me shooting for the moon in 2022: “At times, my habitual overthinking stops me from following my dreams. To keep myself focused, here are some goals I hope to achieve this year:”

  • Start a CSA.- DONE!!!!

  • Launch our Monte Farm Apothecary Soap line. DONE!!! Shop here.

  • Raise weaned lambs, possibly convince Ken to get a milk goat. :) (LOL) Pivoted and got 2 milk goats instead (way better!).

  • Grow more organic pasture raised chicken. DONE!!! We raised over 100 meat birds on a tiny 1/4 acre pasture, rotating them daily to regenerate the soil and grow the most nutritious meat.

  • Double our laying flock- DONE! Can’t have enough eggs!

  • Offer more sourdough baked goods. 2023 was the busiest year yet!

  • Write 1 blog post a month.-Did not hit this goal. Will try harder this year :)

CSA (aka The Monte Farm Club)-

This was by far the biggest endeavor that was accomplished. I absolutely loved channeling my creative energy into curating monthly bundles for over 10 families with recipe cards to boot. This idea was such an undertaking and every member made it absolutely worth it! Here’s a look at each bundle:

One unexpected achievement was the Flower Farm. What was meant to really be a complement to our Farm Club, exploded into an opportunity and a desire to go all in with Flowers. I was delighted to teach a bouquet making workshop and attend market events. I realized flowers are what I really want to do.

2024- a year (hopefully) of balance.

Having too many irons in the fire is never a good thing. I am focusing this year on what really makes me happy- Flowers!!

We are going to be hosting many events here at the farm from Bouquet Bars with baby goats, to private u-picks, maybe even some herbal apothecary workshops.

We hope you join us! Be sure to check out our Flower Club Subscription offerings here: Join the Club

Thank you all who supported our farm in 2023!
